Faith is lived out with a certainty that what God promised will be fulfilled. Faith does not merely know it will happen, but it lives as if it already happened. The living out of faith will radically change every moment of your life. Will money matter today, or will living as if God will provide matter? Will position matter today, or will embracing where we are in Christ matter? Will pessimism of our future exist today, or will optimism of a life full of purpose with God matter? Will what we can gain today matter, or will what we have already received from God matter? Will temporary satisfaction today matter, or will the eternal blessings of our Heavenly Father matter?
Hebrews 11:17-25 is all about how we should live today! “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was in the act of offering up his only son, of whom it was said, "Through Isaac shall your offspring be named." He considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back. By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his bones. By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.”
Abraham obediently followed God knowing He could raise His son from the dead. Isaac blessed his sons in regard to the future. Jacob surrendered in humility to the future purposes of God through someone other then himself. Joseph spoke encouragement to the Israelites in regard to their future freedom. Moses parents were not afraid of their son’s death because they knew that God was going to do something special with him. Moses chose mistreatment because he was looking ahead to his reward. Faith today in God is all about obedience, blessing, humility, encouraging, optimism, courage, and fearlessness.
Take an inventory of your life today. How are you living? Is your life merely about surviving the day? Or is you life more about living as if God’s plans, purposes and promises for you will and have already happened? What needs to change today so that your life will be more about what God has already done? And maybe you get lost because you don’t know what God’s plans, purposes and promises are for you. This is why God gave us His written Word, the Holy Spirit and godly men and women, so that we could KNOW how to live today.
